Basement Remodeling in Spokane

Basement Remodeling and Finishing in Spokane

A finished basement can become a family room, a guest bedroom, a home office or simply a space that doesn’t feel like storage. Good Works Solutions LLC finishes and remodels basements in Spokane and the surrounding area, including Spokane Valley, Liberty Lake, Mead, Cheney and Greenacres, with framing, drywall, painting and flooring done by one contractor.

We’re licensed, bonded and insured (WA L&I #GOODWWS797KS), owned by Daniel Budnik, and we back our workmanship with a 1-year warranty. Most recently, we replaced the drywall throughout a basement in Northwest Spokane.

What’s Included

Every basement is different, so the scope is written out before work begins. Our basement work can include:

  • Planning the layout with you: bedrooms, a family room, an office, storage and access to mechanical equipment
  • Framing new walls, soffits and closets
  • Drywall installation, taping and finishing, or replacement of damaged basement drywall
  • Interior painting of walls, ceilings, doors and trim
  • Flooring: LVP, laminate and tile, which are popular choices for basements
  • Interior doors, trim and finish carpentry
  • Basement bathroom updates as part of a larger remodel
  • Electrical and plumbing by licensed electricians and plumbers we bring in and schedule, so you have one point of contact
  • Repairs after water damage, once the source has been fixed

Permits, Egress and Ceiling Height

Finishing a basement in Spokane usually involves a permit. The City of Spokane’s basement finish guide says a new bedroom or other finished room requires at least a building permit and an electrical permit. It also explains that a basement bedroom needs an egress window or a door directly outside, and that habitable space needs a 7-foot minimum ceiling height. If you’re outside city limits, the rules come from your own city’s building department or from Spokane County. We’ll talk through what your plan may need during the estimate. Our article What to Know Before Finishing Your Basement in Spokane covers the details.

How It Works

  • 1. Call or text photos. Call (425) 240-5076 or text photos to (425) 240-5076. A few pictures and a short note are usually enough for a ballpark idea of what your basement involves.
  • 2. $35 on-site estimate. If it makes sense to move forward, we schedule a visit to measure and look at the conditions in person. The estimate costs $35, and that fee is credited to your job if you hire us.
  • 3. Written estimate. You get the scope, materials and price in writing, so you know exactly what is and isn’t included before anything starts.
  • 4. The work. We work through the scope in a sensible order, typically framing, drywall, paint, then floors and trim, and keep you updated as each stage is finished.
  • 5. 1-year workmanship warranty. We walk the finished work with you, and our workmanship is covered for one year.

Basement Remodeling FAQ

Do I need a permit to finish my basement?

In most cases, yes. In the City of Spokane, finishing a bedroom or other room requires at least building and electrical permits. Other cities and unincorporated Spokane County have their own permit offices, so the exact process depends on where you live.

Can my basement bedroom count as a legal bedroom?

Only if it meets the code, which includes an egress window or exterior door from the room and enough ceiling height. If your existing windows are too small, an egress window may need to be added. We’ll point out what we see during the estimate.

What flooring works best in a basement?

LVP and tile handle moisture better than many other floors, which is why they’re common choices below grade. We’ll look at your slab and talk through options with you.

How much does it cost to finish a basement?

It depends on the size, the number of rooms, whether a bathroom or egress window is involved, and the materials you pick. Text photos for a ballpark, and the $35 on-site estimate gets you a written price. The fee is credited to the job if you hire us.
